She's here!
My 90-day experiment with Kindle Unlimited has lapsed, and while that was interesting (and oddly satisfying to watch the number of pages read per day) I have chosen to distribute the ebook more widely instead of keeping the eBook exclusive on Amazon's platform.
So, welcome to my little dev log, I guess. This is Our Simulated Selves, a novel I've technically been working on for the last 13 years in one way or another, from a screenplay outlined from 2012 to 2014 (about 11 drafts) to a novelization beginning in 2022, which went through exactly 16.5 drafts by my reckoning and concluded, finally, this year, 2025. If it seems like I'm more of an editor than a writer based on the sheer numbers, I would probably agree with you.
So, here it is. Our Simulated Selves 16.5. No further updates are expected, unless someone finds a typo that somehow snuck its way in right under the wire as the ink was drying. Since my hasty publication in June 30, 2025, I have not modified a word of the novel itself, though I did touch up the copyright page, content advisory page, and a few of the acknowledgments a little bit.
A few people have asked about a sequel. I'd love to revisit these characters some day, and I have a few subtle hooks in the novel that I plan to explore if I ever get the inclination. But this is a complete and standalone work of fiction. My next work is something rather different, structurally much simpler, and I dare say it should be completed faster than this one was. I'm excited to share more about that as it progresses.
